The Scotoma Series began in 2005 whilst drawing at the Royal Collage of Art, London. The starting point was photographing drawing ink dispersing in water, then capturing the fluid dynamics at work in pencil on paper. This lead to a series pencil drawings spanning the years following, often large-scale where the mark-making of fluid dynamics was explored. It continues to inform Hedgecock's drawings to date.
